Common Spa Jet Problems

Spas are great for relaxation and fun no matter what time of year it is. Sitting in a hot tub can be the perfect way to unwind after a stressful day, or relax in comfort with friends and loved ones. The last thing anyone wants to encounter is a spa with faulty jets. Without properly functioning jets however, spas can quickly start to lose their appeal. Unfortunately, spa jets can malfunction from time to time, and there are a number of reasons why this happens. In some cases, you may require a professional to complete your spa jet repairs, but there are some instances where you can solve the problem yourself.

Clogged Jets
If you haven't drained your spa in a while, you may not have had a chance to give your spa jets a good cleaning. Over time, things like debris and calcium buildups can prevent your spa jets from functioning properly. If you notice a slight drop in the pressure coming from your spa jets, check to make sure the openings are completely clear. If not, you may want to give each jet a quick cleaning.

Filter Clogs
Another common reason why jets may not work properly is a clogged spa filter. Just like your pool, your spa has a built in filter to keep the water clean. If you haven't cleared the filter out recently, the system will have to work harder to properly circulate the water. This will also prevent your spas from adequately generating pressure. Regularly cleaning out your filter will prevent the jet pressure from deteriorating.

Air Pockets
In a spa, air bubbles are usually a good thing. There are some times where too much air in the spa can prevent it from working properly. If you have recently refilled your spa, there may be some air in the plumbing that keeps the jets from working properly. Turning the system on and off can sometimes clear the air and let your jets run at full capacity again.

Sometimes spa jets won't work because of a minor issue that can be easily fixed. In other cases, you are better off leaving the spa jet repairs to an expert.
