Bond Beam Cracks: Occasional structural movement of the ground under the pool (earthquakes). This can be repaired. 2. Old Grout and Thinset: The life expectancy for thinset and grout is 10-15 years. After that, they simply wear out. It is less expensive to change the tile than to clean the thinset and grout off of the tile (very labor intensive) By the time that the tile is coming off, the tile is old too, and becoming fragile so better to replace.
