POOL & SPA TILE CLEANING, WHY IS IT NECESSARY?

In this extreme heat, the water in your pool evaporates, but the minerals in the water do not.  When the water evaporates, your pool auto fill unit is activated to add more water to bring the pool and spa level back up to its normal level.  Of course, when you add more water you also add MORE MINERALS to your pool and spa. So what happens to the minerals?  They become more and more concentrated in the pool water and when it becomes supersaturated (too much to stay afloat in the water),  it begins to cling to the waterline tiles.  The obvious concern for most folks is that it "looks" dirty.  That is true, but the real problem is that it begins to invade the tile and do damage to it!  It is less expensive to clean the tile, than it is to replace it.

HOW IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN IT?

The old way was to use a pumice stone to scrape it off.  The problem with that proved to be that not only was the mineral deposit scratched off, the tiles were scratched too.  That defeated the purpose, since it damaged the surface of the tile, then the tile had to be replaced.

The new way is to use a high pressure bead peening process that cleans off the minerals and preserves the tile in good condition.  Also,  we protect the tile, using a commercial tile SEALER after the cleaning.  This puts a nice finish on the tile, but more importantly, it protects it from new mineral deposits and delays the formation of new mineralization for a time.

Because of the water usage concern in the valley, we recommend to plan on doing all necessary pool maintenace, that might require draining the pool grouped together all at one time so the pool only has to be drained one time.  Additional maintenance to consider at this time would be acid or chlorine washes, pool and spa light repair, main drain repair, and any plumbing issues.
